Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that hinders one’s functioning, or development. Here are some common symptoms:

  • Inattention refers to difficulties in maintaining focus, staying organized, and completing tasks unrelated to defiance, or comprehension challenges.
  • Hyperactivity is characterized by constant movement, inappropriate behavior, excessive fidgeting, tapping, or talking, and in adults, it may manifest as restlessness, or excessive talking.
  • Impulsivity involves acting without thinking, lacking self-control, desiring immediate rewards, and making hasty decisions without considering long-term consequences.
